The fishing hook knot

 In Tips

nodo-dell'amoThe best hook in the world is useless if it isn’t attached to a line. The basic and fundamental components of a fishing rod are the following two:
the hook and the line: you can’t fish if one is missing.

A chain is as strong as its weakest ring, in fact the critical point of all terminals is the knot, very often overlooked.
When tying knots, little attention is paid to the fact that we are uniting two completely different materials, with totally opposite mechanical characteristics; understanding this obvious difference will instinctively lead you to seek the perfect knot.

Research has revealed an unexpected truth: perfectly tied knots have produced excellent results in crossing by 90% the breaking load determined by Nylon manufactures, but the shocking news is that knots purposely tied by beginners didn’t even overcome 25% of the breaking load.

After thousands of attemps in finding the perfect fishing hook knot, we have come to an extremely technical and interesting conclusion: the exactly same knot made by using lines of different brands has a radically different force; this doesn’t necessarily mean that one fishing line is better than the rest, but, on the other hand, only points out the fact that different fishing lines of different brands usually respond in different ways.
Once in a while try doing an experiment in the name of science and sacrifice a few metres of your favourite line, tying numerous knots of the same type with little variations, like increasing one at a time the number of coils, then test them out in the most empirical of ways: lock a weight onto the hook and lift it up… this little expedient will give you surprising results and you’ll feel the weight becoming increasingly heavier.
